In September 2022 Xplornet became Xplore. Read more here.

The new Xplore Internet tower at Five Corners, just north of Keene, Ontario has been making a big difference in the community.

“As far as I’m concerned, it is not a luxury to be able to have dependable Internet, and that’s what Xplore has provided for us,” said retired high school principal David Myrvold.

He and his family moved to Five Corners 34 years ago and have struggled to find good Internet throughout that time. This year, Xplore has been rolling out Wireless Home Internet with speeds up to 100 Mbps to communities across the country, including building tons of new towers.

“We have several neighbours who work exclusively at home so it's a lifeline for them. For ourselves, my wife has several Zoom meetings with a hospital in Toronto,” he said.

Without reliable Internet, David’s wife couldn’t get the specialty care she needs.

“There’s a doctor at Sunnybrook Hospital that is world-renowned in the issues that she has been dealing with. Quite often, it’s difficult to travel into Toronto and now she can have face-to-face care with a world-renowned doctor,” David explained.

He has been helping provide medical care to his community as a member of the Board of Directors of the local Morton Community Health Centre. The health centre has been addressing the shortage of doctors in the area so that locals can get the care they need at home instead of driving all the way to Peterborough. David has relied on the Internet for his Board of Director video conferences and for Facetiming with his family.

“Our family Facetimes almost exclusively through the internet. It’s nice to have the security of being able to know that we have communication lines that are dependable, for professional calls or with family. I never have to worry that it’s going to disappear in the middle of a phone call or conversation,” he said.

David said his Internet service is like night and day since the new tower went in.

“We have speeds like never before, no buffering whatsoever. It’s been fantastic. Everything we hoped for,” he said.

He is appreciative of the impact the tower has had on his community. He beamed with examples of these results.

“My daughter lives next door, and they’ve had the same experience,” David said.

Now he, like so many others living in smaller communities, is feeling the impact of reliable connectivity.

David's story is just one among many, but it resonates with Xplore’s mission: to bring faster, better Internet to Canadians living in rural communities. And we’re happy to report that more towers bringing speeds up to 100 Mbps are lighting up every week. That means faster downloads, clearer video calls, and victory in online games.
