Xplornet Communications Inc. has been recognized by its peers for its extensive community involvement by being awarded the prestigious Community Involvement Award for 2018 by ContactNB at a gala reception earlier this month in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Since its inception in 2004, Xplornet has been an enthusiastic participant in community events and initiatives in and around Fredericton and its head office in Woodstock, NB. But in 2017 the company redoubled its efforts to provide much-needed services to the community while engaging Xplornet employees.

“The fact that individuals are much more likely to volunteer if organized by their employer is something we at Xplornet recognize,” said Mireille Godin, Vice President of Customer Care at Xplornet. “By keeping the spirit of giving back to our communities, it provides our employees with the opportunity to support a like cause for local charities.”

In April of last year, Xplornet employees built and maintained a series of above-ground garden boxes to provide the Greener Village Food Center with fresh produce rather than canned goods. With over 20,000 people accessing food banks across New Brunswick, the Xplornet team helped ensure needy people in the community got fresh, nutritious food.

“It meant a lot to our employees throughout 2017 to be involved in charity events that they could literally get their ‘hands dirty’ in seeing their labor pay off,” Godin said. “Their engagement and teamwork were the roots of what made this thought a reality for the local food bank.”

But the giving didn’t stop there.

In support of Transition House in Fredericton and Sanctuary House in Woodstock, Xplornet executives and customer care staff raised over $2,100 and donated clothing, gift cards, blankets, housewares and toiletries to the two organizations that help abused women and children.

During the summer, a dress-down fundraiser by Xplornet employees raised over $1,400 for the Greener Village Food Centre, and over $850 for the Valley Food Bank.

The Xplornet team also helped the Boys & Girls Club of Fredericton collect about $500 in recyclables, donated $1,500 to the Woodstock Thunder and Leo Hayes basketball teams, and donated $5000 towards the JA Golf Fore Youth event.

“Xplornet recognizes that giving back to the community is equally as important for the charities,” Godin said.

The Community Involvement Award wasn’t the only award Xplornet picked up on the night.
Customer Service rep Pierrette Audet and manager trainee Carl Haskell were given two of the employee of the year awards, and Information Technology EVP Cathy MacDonald was recognized as Leader of the Year.

The annual ContactNB Awards are recognize the achievements of employees at member companies, associate members and vendor partners. ContactNB is a provincial industry association that represents 18,000 people in the contact centre industry in New Brunswick.
