This Network Build Expert is “Baking” the World a Better Place

A lot of time and energy goes into building an Xplore fixed wireless tower, and Shayne Campbell, our Senior Manager, Fixed Wireless Deploy ON E has experienced it all.

Before he joined the #XploreFamily he worked for one of our contractors as a “rigger.” Riggers are the highly-skilled individuals that climb the towers and install the next-generation LTE equipment that allows us to offer 5G Home Internet with speeds up to 100 Mbps.

“I’ve done every job in fixed wireless build from the work on the tower to managing the financials. It gives me a pretty broad view of the whole process,” he said.

With this array of experiences, Shayne was perfect for the role of construction manager, his first role at Xplore.

“I was already very familiar with the sites and the equipment as I built a great number of them. So, I’m now responsible for sites that I know very well,” he said.

Now, Shayne manages the teams that do all of Xplore’s new tower builds and upgrades in Eastern Ontario.

A day in his life involves keeping close tabs on how new tower builds are going and staying ahead of any issues that could occur.

“We try to build our sites with capacity for the future and now we’re installing new Ericsson equipment at the sites. This is the next generation of network access equipment for the homeowner. We are using it to get 50 and upwards of 100 Mbps packages out to the customers,” he said.

The thing Shayne loves most about his role is the ability to use his wide skillset and experience in the field to make things run smoothly. In his words, he’s been given a voice.

“My experience lets me know the most efficient way to get the job done. And, being that I worked as a contractor in the past, I know how to give the vendors we work with what they need to be successful,” he said.

He takes pride in his team's ability to build a strong network, ensuring equipment is in good shape and that customers can rely on their Xplore high-speed Internet connections.

Like many of our customers, Shayne lives in a small town.

He moved around a lot growing up and so he was happy when he put roots down 10 years ago in Vankleek Hill, Ontario.

He and his family live right in the village in a late 19th century Victorian home on the side of a hill.

You may know Vankleek Hill as the “Gingerbread Capital of Ontario.”

“Not the food but the fancy trim work around the outside of the covered porches. My house is covered in it,” Shayne said.

Despite it not being “that” kind of gingerbread, Shayne and his wife are the proud owners of a local bakery called The Broken Kettle.

"When I’m not making the world a better place with Xplore, I’m baking the world a better place,” he chuckled.

Shayne is the bakery’s resident sandwich artist, a popular menu item for visitors. But nothing compares to his wife’s award-winning butter tarts!

“They won the Best Butter Tart award at the Vankleek Hill Food Festival two years in a row,” he said.
