Xplornet has compiled a list of the most frequently asked Internet questions and their answers so that you are prepared when making the next big decision about your home Internet.

Let’s get started…

Which Internet service is best for home?

The best service is one that is available at your particular location and provides enough data & speed to support all your Internet activities. More speed will be required for homes with more people and for homes with Internet video subscription services.

A good Wi-Fi router will be required for homes that are larger or have more complex shapes or many floors. Xplornet offers a commercial-grade, easy to use router with incredible range and advanced security features. Subscribers get 24/7 assistance from our technical support team and lifetime replacement.

What do I need to get to set up home Internet, Smart TV and phone?

You will require an Internet connection with at least 10 Mbps upload speed, plus ethernet cables or a wireless router to connect your home TV and phone to the Internet.

How much bandwidth do I really need at my home?

Bandwidth is the data transfer rate or Internet speed, often expressed in Mbps. Bandwidth needs will depend on the types of online activities and the number of simultaneously connected devices.

Activities, such as streaming video in high definition on multiple devices, will require more bandwidth for a good experience than simply sending emails or browsing social media. A single person streaming video will require a speed of around 5 Mbps.

For households with multiple people connected to the Internet and streaming video, plans with speeds of up to 50 Mbps are required to provide a good experience. If you’d like more advice about what Internet package is right for you, give us a call at 1-855-291-3383.

Is satellite Internet service really fast and reliable?

Yes. Internet service using satellites has improved significantly over the past 10 years with the launch of next-generation satellites. Internet speeds continue to increase with plans offering up to 50 Mbps, which is sufficient to allow multiple devices in a household to simultaneously stream video. That said, satellite Internet is not well suited for online live gaming due to higher latency that could cause delays.

What does unlimited Internet mean?

Unlimited Internet refers to unlimited data or ‘no data caps’. Most of the new Xplornet plans offer unlimited data so customers do not need to worry about data caps, throttling or additional usage charges. Customers on plans that do not offer unlimited data can change their plans at any time to take advantage of unlimited data.
