The Journey to Miniature Horses

Craig’s journey with miniature horses began 20 years ago when his niece brought home two adorable minis from an “odd and unusual sale.” Intrigued by their safety and charm, the family quickly fell in love with these tiny equines. What started with two horses soon blossomed into a thriving breeding operation, now boasting 25 miniature horses. These little horses, standing no taller than 38 inches, have become a beloved part of the Cline family, offering a safe and manageable alternative to their larger counterparts.

The Allure of Miniature Horses

Miniature horses are not just adorable—they’re incredibly versatile. “Anyone can handle a mini horse,” Craig explains. “Mini horses, depending on size, can carry 70 pounds. We don’t promote riding them, but you can hook them up to a buggy, and it’s unbelievable what they can pull.” Craig shared that they were originally bred to be small enough to fit in a coal mine but strong enough to pull out wagons full of coal!

Achievements and Accolades

Craig’s family participates in various shows, including the prestigious Canadian Nationals at the Calgary Stampede. Competing in events like jumping, trail, and halter classes, these mini horses prove that they can do almost everything a big horse can, just without being ridden. The family’s dedication and hard work have paid off, earning them the coveted “Canadian National Supreme” title twice—a testament to their well-conditioned and beautifully presented horses. “The first time was a feeling you cannot describe. You never think your horse is going to do it, and when we were called, I was flabbergasted, happy, and emotional all at the same time.”
